The past weeks have moved at lightening speed, with all the flurry of action surrounding our move into our permanent place last week. Here’s a quick run-down of what we’ve been doing:
We’ve been reunited with our things from London (all 50 boxes/items made it safely, minus 1 sushi bowl.)
In one night, we managed to unpack all but a few boxes, which are on hold until we decide what we’re doing with our office space. Over the past few years, we’ve filtered our belongings and generally feel that we love everything we have. However, as I unpacked the third box of wine glasses, I started to wonder if we were really that cut-throat in our purging. I told my friend this and apparently, this isn’t unique to me. In her words: I seriously don’t know why 2 people need SO many things to drink out of. I tried to pare down, but I still have like 5 boxes of glassware. What if I don’t feel like using champagne flutes and want to use champagne saucers?!?! Really? Who do we think we are?!?! Yep, exactly. And just to be clear, this is a champagne saucer. Obviously a staple piece.
Next up was painting the walls (Restoration Hardware Graphite, Slate, Linen & Pumice ) along with new carpet in the bedroom.
Finally we installed some 2 1/2 inch floating shelves in the alcoves by our fireplace. And by ‘we,’ I mean the lovely carpenter who my parents recommended. Best DIY project ever. We still need to paint them, but it’s a huge addition to the room! We also added the chair and rug this week. It’s looking pretty neutral in there, so I’m on the look out for some colorful throw pillows.
It’s probably a good thing I’m leaving tomorrow for 10 days in London. I think we both need a break from the home re-design!
